Denmark, Copenhagen : Royal Danish Opera
Open house at the Opera House
9 May 2010 from 10.00 to 15.00
Once again, the Opera House welcomes visitors to a wide range of free matinee events. Enjoy a spring excursion to Copenhagen’s harbourside Opera House and experience members of the Royal Danish Opera and the Royal Danish Orchestra perform on the Main Stage. Venture backstage on short guided tours and let makeup artists style you for the stage in the Opera House foyer.
The event will open with a brass band performance in the Opera House foyer by members of the Royal Danish Orchestra.
Internationally acclaimed Danish opera soloist Johan Reuter, currently appearing as Dr. Needlemeier in the crazy comic opera Skin Deep, will perform opera arias accompanied by pianist Leif Greibe. Artistic Director of the Royal Danish Opera Kasper Holten, who has nurtured a lifelong passion for opera, will hold a talk on opera in the Opera House foyer.
Experienced members of the Royal Danish Orchestra brass ensemble perform works by Vagn Holmboe, Victor Ewald, Ludwig Maurer and Malcolm Arnold at the Opera House, Main Stage. The Opera House Main Stage will also highlight a performance of Brahms’ beautiful love waltzes, Liebeslieder Walzer, featuring members of the Royal Danish Opera Chorus accompanied by a duet of pianists playing at the same grand piano.
Furthermore, the event also offers short guided tours of the Opera House. And makeup artists will demonstrate their skills in the foyer. The Opera House café and bar will be open, serving light dishes, sandwiches and cakes, etc.
